20/20 VISION FOR THE NEW YEAR!

To See Clearly, We Must Trust in God
King Jehoshaphat of Judah was frightened by the news that a huge army was approaching,
so he called his people together to seek God’s help. They fasted. They prayed. Empowered by
the Spirit, Jahaziel the prophet assured them they need not fear because the Lord was with them
and would save them. Hearing this, they took courage and worshiped.
Shortly before they would face their enemies, Jehoshaphat exhorted his people to “put your
trust in the Lord your God and you will be established. Put your trust in His prophets and
succeed” (2 Chronicles 20:20).
The day before, Jehoshaphat had led them in a fervent prayer that serves as a model for us
whenever we face a major crises: “For we are powerless before this great multitude who are
coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You” (2 Chron. 20:6, 12).
God then defeated their enemies without even involving Judah in the battle. The day before,
they had drawn to God out of desperation. Now they are drawn to God in jubilation, “returning
to Jerusalem with joy, for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies” (2 Chron.
20:27). And how they praised Him!
