Catching Up

Needless to say, the past 6 months have been anything but normal. The threat of COVID
kept us from our weekly time together and continues to keep us from regular worship and Bible
classes. The threat of the virus has kept us from visiting those who are shut-in and those who are
in the hospital. And while we are on the subject, the concern for the physical well-being of others
has kept many of us from our cherished times together. We have greater concerns for our
children, teachers and parents as the school year has begun. But, life does continue on, with the
hopes of everything back to “normal” at some time.
With the “shut-down” came the need to begin virtual worship and you were patient as we
learned the ins and outs of recording. Well, you were patient with the preacher as he learned how
to deal with the virtual world. We opened our homes on Sundays to individuals who needed to be
together, even though “apart.” We spent time on telephones and emails, reassuring that even
though we were apart, we still cared and were willing to help whenever needed. And now that
we are together, we still respect the need for precautions that are intended to keep us well —
masks and elbow bumps! We are at least together, even if in smaller groups, but always
reminded that we are together in spirit.
If you have not been able to be with us during this time, we are still active. Help and
encouragement was provided for teachers as they made their way back into school. The Change
Cans for the Paragould Homes was collected and prepared to be sent to the Home. If you have
yet to return yours, there is still time (see Larry). We have continued with the 5th Sunday
Building Fund. You may not be able to see it, but the “barn” was built in the back of the church
property. Landscaping on the building continues and you are always welcome to help out with
the weeding, if you have become “bored” with TV and movies.
Finally, we have been involved in selecting new elders. Forms were distributed this past
Sunday for members to consider Kelly Koonce and respond as to his qualifications and
leadership abilities as an elder. Forms are available for your use. We ask that you prayerfully
consider Kelly in this role and help the elders in this very important decision.
Even though we are limited with our time together, the church here continues to be about
serving our Lord and Savior in His kingdom! ~P. Mowrer
