HE IS MY EVERYTHING!

I read a devotional thought this week that asked the question, “Who is this Jesus?” It is not
the first time the question has been asked, and I doubt that it will be the last time. The devotional
thought stemmed from the question John the Baptist had his disciples ask Jesus, “Are you the
Expected One, or shall we look for someone else” (Mt. 11:3)? Who is this Jesus?
Jesus. We read of His compassion for people and how He was one with God. He came to
earth for the expressed purpose to die on the cross for our sins. We know He was (is) deity and
eternal, deserving of all praise and glory. He lived a human life and showed us how to live for
God. He was humble, yet king of kings and will judge us on judgment day. He is recognized by
many names, yet at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is
Lord (Phil. 2:10-11). But, who is this Jesus?
Perhaps the question we should concentrate on is who is this Jesus to me? Of all the
descriptions we could use to describe Jesus, ultimately how we live our lives depends on how we
answer that question. If Jesus is our everything, then we will go to great extremes to live our
lives in complete submission to Him. “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all
these things will be added to you” (Mt. 6:33). “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny
himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me” (Lk. 9:23). “I have been crucified with
Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the
flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Gal. 2:20). Who
is this Jesus to you?
The song “He Is My Everything!” has a line which should haunt us regarding our lives with
Christ. It goes like this, “Who is this Jesus you talk about everyday…” I often ask the question,
“Have you told someone about Jesus lately?” The better question would be, “Do you talk about
Jesus everyday?” When our lives are keyed in to living for Jesus completely, then we will be
talking about who Jesus is to us. He is our Redeemer, Savior, Lord, Friend, Rock of Salvation,
etc. Better yet, He is our world!
“He is my everything, He is my all. He is my everything, both great and small. He gave His
life for me, made everything new. He is my everything, now how about you?” Who is this Jesus
to you? ~P. Mowrer
