Preaching Christ
While scrolling down my facebook page (looking for posts from my children and a few
dear friends), I regularly see posts of individuals ranting about various and sundry concerns in
our society (i.e., transgender bathrooms, homosexuality, abortion, gun laws, our presidential
election, etc.). And then I began to question the absence of such rants regarding the need for
holiness before the Lord and obedience to His commands. It was explained to me ever so kindly
that sometimes what is shared is based on what folks choose to re-post.
Facebook aside, the point is that there is a tendency in the church today to concentrate
(and vocalize) on a lot of issues surrounding us in our world today, while spending less time
telling of salvation in Christ and the hope we have of eternal life. Perhaps it is time for us (God’s
people) to examine ourselves more closely (2 Corinthians 13:5) to see if we have wandered
from those things that we need to be sharing with a lost world. In writing to the Corinthians, the
apostle Paul reminded them that he was “...determined to know nothing among you except Jesus
Christ, and Him crucified” (1 Cor. 2:2). He later warns Timothy, “No soldier in active service
entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him
as a soldier” (2Tim. 2:4).
We have been given the task of preaching the gospel of Christ to all mankind (Mt. 28:19-
20; Mk. 16:15). What impact could we make on those around us, if we would spend more time
talking of Jesus and less on the tribulation of the world? Either Jesus is the answer to all things
(and He is!), or He is no answer to anything and then we find ourselves to be a people most
pitied because of our belief in a man offering no hope (1 Cor. 15:17).
This is not a rant on the evils of facebook! This is a challenge to us, as God’s children, to
be more involved in the saving of souls for the Lord. Minding our speech, so it is in accord with
God’s Word, teaching of the judgment to come and the way provided for salvation through the
blood of Jesus Christ. Media avenues have already provided all the information needed regarding
societal issues. It is now pastime for Christians to rise up and begin to share of the hope we have
in a better life (here and eternally!) because of God’s wonderful love, mercy and grace, shown to
us through the man, Jesus Christ! ~P. Mowrer P
