OVERFLOWING WITH THANKSGIVING

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been

firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were

instructed, and overflowing with gratitude” (Colossians 2:7).

I want to express my gratitude for the prayers, cards, food, visits, phone calls, and voiced

concerns for my well being leading up to and following my surgery. Not so sure I am as grateful

regarding the acknowledgement of what happens as one gets “older”, but willing to accept it all

the same! I am thankful to be a part of a loving family who shows concern for the physical

welfare of the complete body. I am thankful for the men capable of filling in teaching and

preaching with not near enough notice. Thank you Josh Pettigrew and Kelly Koonce for jobs

well done!

I am thankful that we are blessed to have so many men capable of faithfully teaching and

preaching God’s Word. I am thankful for all of our Bible teachers who prepare to teach our Bible

classes (young and old) each and every week. I am thankful for the ladies of our congregation

who never tire of preparing meals for “home-bound” folks and I am thankful for the individuals

who quietly show the spirit of Christ in day to day service.

I am thankful that a day has been set aside each week to come together as God’s family to

praise Him. I am thankful for voices that lift up praise to God, not only Sunday, but each and

every day of each week. I am thankful for God’s Word which has been handed down to us

through the ages to direct our steps heavenward. I am thankful for the Holy Spirit who dwells

within each of us, marking us as God’s children and taking our feeble prayers, making them fit

for the Master.

I am thankful for the knowledge I have of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior! Knowing that

He was from the beginning, came to this earth to die such a cruel death to redeem me from

eternal damnation! I am thankful for baptism that puts me in touch with the blood of Christ,

washing me day by day, so I can stand pure, holy and righteous before God. I am thankful for the

knowledge of the empty tomb, a reminder to the world that our Savior is alive and well and has

promised to return one day to take us to be with Him in glory, to be in the presence of our

Heavenly Father for eternity!

These are just a “few” things we all have to be thankful for. I hope and pray that as we

live for the Lord each day, that we can remind ourselves, that even when things aren’t as we

would like them to be, we do have much to be thankful for. Lift your voice in praise to God!
