Why do buzzards sink?
Having been around buzzards a few times I have noticed one general truth about that
species of bird. Buzzards stink! Now I don’t know if our government has given grant money to
anyone to determine why Buzzards stink, but I can give you an answer this very moment.
Buzzards stink because of what they eat. When you see a group of buzzards on the side of the
road, do you ever notice what they are dining on? I believe it is called road kill. But then you are
what you eat.
I wish more members of the Lord’s body understood that simple principle. Jesus teaches
us that it isn’t what you eat that defiles a man; but what goes into the heart. “But the things
which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man. For out of
the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railing;
these are the things which defile the man” (Matthew 15 :18-19).
When the human heart feasts on foul language, evil stories, movies that are simply trash,
and similar vices of the flesh, we too start to stink! I am truly convinced that Jesus will not invite
such a stench into His home.
Paul reminds us what spiritual foods we should feast on. “Finally brethren what things
are true, whatever things are noble, whatever is just, whatever things are lovely, what things are
pure, if there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things” Phil.
4:8.
