DO YOU EVER FEEL LIKE GIVING UP?
Giving up. It seems like we live in a society that has become all about giving up. There have
been so many changes in the way we look at everyday items. We want things that are cheaper
and we want them instantly. Even skills are being lost through this change in our society. We no
longer repair things, we simply throw them away and get new ones. Ask most of the younger
generation to sew a patch on their pants or just sew on a button. Most of them will have no idea
how to accomplish what was a simple task only 30 years ago.
Life is full of difficult tasks and events that have us all wanting to give up at times. One of
the difficult tasks that Christians face is living the life that we should. We face temptations and
we stumble. We face times when we fail to study or pray the way we should. The Bible speaks
about our need to continue in the face of life’s challenges.
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”
(Philippians 3:14). “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let
us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1). “I have fought the good fight, I have
finished the course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). “Do you not know that in a race all
the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who
competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but
we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running
aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it
my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize” (1
Corinthians 9: 24). ~ Brad Tolbert
