THE DREAM BECOMING REALITY
A very hearty “thank you” to everyone who had a part in making Monday, July 16 such a
memorable day for the Monticello church! Yes, it was a hot day, but there were 75 (a very close
preacher count!) in attendance as we broke ground for our new facility. We are thankful for all
those who helped set up and break down tents, tables and chairs; for those who prepared
refreshments and for those who helped prepare the area for ground breaking. And a special
thanks for all who have generously given and prayed for this day. It is indeed an exciting time
for the Monticello congregation.
It was brought to my attention Monday afternoon the picture that I would imagine everyone
missed but has such meaning for each of us. Little Brooks Newton was in attendance Monday
morning equipped with his little toy John Deere tractor and farm implement, digging in the dirt
at Sara’s feet. Little boys and girls of all ages have spent hours playing with doll houses and
digging in the dirt pretending (dreaming!) of being adults and the possibilities that lie ahead in
their lives. I know, we all were just playing, but in those dreams and play times, there is the seed
of possibility planted in the young mind. Our dream began in earnest in 2008 and Monday we
witnessed the beginning of the building reality.
This is not the time to sit back and rest on our laurels. With such an endeavor brings about
an even greater responsibility in using the gift(s) which God has blessed us with for His glory
and praise! I hope you will be in prayer now that the Lord will help each of us be good stewards
and to be about filling this building up to overflowing! “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers
are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest” (Mt.
9:37-38). And with the Lord’s help, we will fill this building. The future is bright for the saints at
Gabbert St. (soon to be 2078 Hwy. 425 North!). Praise God for His wonderful works! Our
children will truly benefit from this building, so it wasn’t just the adults breaking ground; it was
our children, too! ~P. Mowrer
