FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE OF CHRIST

I am appreciative of Bro. Wheeler and his time with us this past week and sharing Jesus’
sayings from the cross. I can’t help but think that we have “unintentionally” relegated the life of
Christ to a narrative from the Bible, but fail to look deeper into a life that the Lord invites us to
live on a daily basis. And perhaps in the process of reading words, we fail to make the
connection how we, too, can live this life. I pray that each of us may take the lessons from this
past week and apply them to our lives, looking for ways in which we can “make it through a bad
day—the Lord’s way!”
I am also thankful to those of you who were in attendance each night. I know that it makes
for a full (and tiring) week, but one that could be so enriching for each of us as we examine the
Scriptures in how to live for Christ. It is just another way to be reminded that we are called “...to
follow in His steps,…” (1 Peter 2:21-24). Some of the “steps” of Jesus can be seen while He
hung on the cross. It is somewhat easier to walk in the steps of Jesus when things are going well,
but far more difficult when things aren’t to our liking. Let us strive harder to walk in the ways of
Jesus, no matter the challenges we may face from day to day. As great as some of those
challenges may appear, there is nothing any of us will ever face in our lifetime that will come
close to what Christ faced while on the cross —for us! We can make it through our bad days
when we focus on Christ.
I do want to share with you a couple of opportunities we have to further grow in our faith.
The Pine St. congregation in Crossett is hosting their Gospel Meeting beginning Sunday, Oct.
28, running through Wednesday, Oct. 31. Worship begins each evening at 7:00. Cathy and I plan
to attend on Tuesday evening of that week. We would love to have others attend with us. We
may not be able to fit many in our car, but traveling in a caravan could be great! If you can’t go
on Tuesday, maybe Monday evening would be better for you. Whichever night you attend will
be a blessing to you and to the saints meeting in Crossett.
The West Central congregation in Warren is hosting their annual Men’s Lectureship
Saturday, Nov. 3. Breakfast is served from 8:00 to 8:50 and the lectureship will begin at about
9:00. They always do a good job. I plan to attend and would love to have others go with me. Let
me know if you are interested. I hope you are taking advantage of the opportunities offered for
each of us to grow in our faith, so we can be better servants in the Lord’s kingdom. ~P. Mowrer
