Action Words!

When we open the Bible and look at words that describe the life of a Christian, one thing we
quickly realize is we are called to an active life. It’s not about just sitting in the pew. Let’s look
at some words the Bible uses to describe our life. Hint, they are all action words.
FOLLOW Christ - When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, "I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12).
TAKE UP our cross - Then He said to them all: "Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny
themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me” (Luke 9:23).
WALK as Christ - “The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same
manner as He walked” (1 John 2:6).
PRESS on - “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”
(Philippians 3:14).
RUN the race - “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us
also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).
ENDURE - “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you
may receive what was promised” (Hebrews 10:36).
The Christian life takes effort on our part. Our life should be like the old song we used to
sing “I want to be a worker for the Lord”. Is your faith producing actions for God? ~B Tolbert
