OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE

Jesus set an example of serving when He washed the apostles’ feet the night He was
betrayed. He emphasized the deed with the following words: “If I then, the Lord and the
Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I gave you an example
that you also should do as I did to you” (Jn. 13:14-15). God’s people are to be a “serving”
people. Opportunities to serve with this congregation abound.
We are needing individuals willing to take communion to our shut-ins at The Woods. Yes, it
takes a little of your time on Sunday afternoons, but I assure you that you will be richly blessed.
This is not a “service” just to be done by the older folks. Younger families can be a part of this
work and bring great joy to those in the home. It is also a great way to show “service” to our
children and youth.
We are always in need of individuals willing to take on teaching our children, youth and
adults. Yes, the classes are being filled each week, but there are those in each class who have
been teaching for many years with no break. There is coming a day when some of those teachers
will no longer be able to teach and then who will faithfully teach our children?
Many Thursday evenings during the school year there is a need for food preparations for our
college program, Weevils for Christ. It does take a little preparation and a little time delivering
food to the campus building, but the college students are always very appreciative. If you can’t
get it together by yourself, go in with someone and share the load. You can also give money to
Brad and let him provide pizza (always a student favorite!) or some other meal.
The church has taken on a service project that has not been advertised, but it gives
opportunity several times a month for about a dozen individuals of the community to be in our
building. UAMS sponsors Project for Adolescent and Child Evaluation (PACE), a health
assessment to all children placed in foster care. We are 1 of 18 sites throughout the state. PACE
averages about 236 evaluations per month statewide. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve the
community and all we have to do is open the doors. Pray the Lord will use this project to reach
souls for Him. ~P. Mowrer
