FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOLLOW UP
I want to thank everyone who helped in making Friends and Family Day such a great
success! From weed pulling, flower arranging, meal preparations, building cleaning, worship
preparations and of course, inviting folks to be a part of this special day. It was good to have so
many visitors with us. I heard from many who had invited folks, but their folks weren’t able to
attend. The main thing is that folks were invited.
It would be easy to stop and say, “Look what we accomplished.” But this is when the work
really begins. We need to follow up with our visitors and invite them again, or maybe ask to sit
down and visit with them about what they were a part of Sunday: the lesson, the singing, the
fellowship, etc. The seed has been planted and now the watering begins (1 Cor. 3:5-9). And with
God’s powerful and loving hand, good things can take place as we serve Him in His kingdom.
Let’s not save up our invitations for worship just for Friends and Family Day or Vacation
Bible School. Let’s be inviting folks for each time we meet together. Sunday is an exciting time
as we gather to worship and praise our heavenly Father, to remember Jesus Christ and His
sacrifice at Calvary for us, and to spend time in studying God’s Word and having it proclaimed.
Every Sunday should be a special day for God’s children and when we treat each Sunday as
special, we will impact many lives for Christ.
“Shine, Jesus, Shine” is a song we sing from time to time and if you pay close attention to
the words of the chorus you see the task we have been given by the Lord. His light is to shine
through us as we live for Him day by day (Matt. 5:14-16). He has filled us with living water
which is to flow from our lives day by day (Jn. 4:13-14). We are to fill this land with the glory
of the Father (Jn. 17:10, 18, 20-21) — may we do so while we have breath in our bodies!
Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory.
Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy.
Send forth Your Word, Lord, and let there be light!
