Don’t Face Doubt Alone
Have you ever felt doubt? You have probably received an email that was pushing for your
personal information, or maybe you have seen a Facebook post that told you the secret cure for
the Corona-19 virus. We often face situations when a healthy dose of doubt serves us well.
One of Jesus’ own disciples - someone who had spent years witnessing miracles, traveling
with Christ, and learning at Jesus’ feet- famously doubted that his master was raised from the
dead. He had plenty of time, an entire week, for questions and the doubt to grow and gnaw at
him. He had heard about Jesus from the other apostles but wanted to see Jesus for himself.
“Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when
Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the LORD!" But he said to them,
"Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my
hand into His side, I will not believe." A week later His disciples were in the house again, and
Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and
said, "Peace be with you!" Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach
out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." Thomas said to Him, "My
LORD and my God!" Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen Me, you have believed;
blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" (John 20:24-29).
When it comes to things we have been taught, or even our own ideas and beliefs about what
the Bible says, there may be times when doubt can creep in. When it does, instead of hiding our
doubt, we should seek the guidance found in the Bible and help from our fellow brothers and
sisters in Christ. We don’t have to face doubt alone. Studying to see that what we believe is true
is part of what makes us true children of God. ~ Brad Tolbert
