Who Is Jesus?

What do you think of when you hear the word “Jesus”? Many of us have an idea in our
head, or a picture that we see. You may have different images that change, depending on your
circumstances. We may think of a manger scene with a baby Jesus surrounded by shepherds. We
may see Jesus walking on the water or healing the blind man. We may see a man hanging on a
cross. We have a picture, an idea, who we think Jesus was, and who He is. Understanding who
Jesus is, what He taught, and how we respond, is the most important thing a person can do in
their life.
The truth of Jesus goes back before the beginning of creation, before time itself. New
Testament writers point out that Jesus existed before the creation of the universe and that it is
through Him that all was created and it is being sustained by His power.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He
was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was
made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light
shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:1-5).
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all
things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is
before all things, and in Him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:15-17).
We have so much to learn about Jesus. We must not become complacent in our study of
the Bible and the wonderful story of Jesus. From Genesis to Revelation the story of Jesus is
revealed. ~Brad Tolbert
