Goals and Dreams
A young agent once asked a member of the million-dollar sales club for advice so he could
be a successful insurance agent. The successful man advised him to sell 200 new policies each
year. “That means you only have to sell four each week,” he stated. The young agent followed
the advice and at the end of the year was surprised to find himself a member of the million-
dollar sales club! Often, the key to accomplishments is setting goals.
Christians who set goals will find new purpose and direction as they “Press on toward the
goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). They will
experience a sense of accomplishment which wards off feelings of standing still. Setting goals
helps in just getting the job done. “The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul;...” (Proverbs
13:19).
Someone has said, “Those who aim at nothing hit it with amazing accuracy.” That speaks to
many churches and Christian individuals. Why do we not set goals? Many do not because they
are afraid that they will miss the mark. Some don’t because they do not understand God’s will
for us. Others, I fear, because they are willing to drift along in the easiest course.
God has given us a blueprint of His goals for us. To fulfill that we each need to set our goals
in line with His. Let us set goals and dreams that make us better performers in His kingdom.
