The Repairman

My washing machine has started making noise and it got me to thinking, have you noticed
our society seems to be losing the idea of the repairman? Every town had repair shops. Now
those shops all seem to be closed. Many products are now made so they can’t be repaired, or you
can’t find parts. Many things are cheaper to replace than repair.
Relationships have fallen prey to this way of thinking. People throw away years of
friendship over small slights. They will even throw away their marriage. People become
pregnant and decide to get an abortion ending a relationship and life all at once. The ultimate act
of giving up is suicide. Sadly, this act seems to be on the rise, especially among teenagers in the
US. Deaths from suicide have increased 24 percent from 1999 to 2014, according to an analysis
of Americans ages 5 and up conducted by researchers at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention.
God’s word has the answer to life’s problems, if we are committed to putting in effort and
allowing Him to work in our lives. “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed
in spirit” (Psalm 34:18 ESV). “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm
147:3 ESV).
Jesus Christ is the ultimate repairman. He repairs the broken relationships between those in
the world and God. The blood of Christ can wash away your sins and make you new. Baptism
allows you to rise a new creature putting away the old life. “Therefore we have been buried with
Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of
the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4). Being righteous (right with
God) is the ultimate in repairs. Are you ready to be repaired? Are you ready to have a right
relationship with God? ~ Brad Tolbert
