Small Group Studies

Our Small Study Groups will begin Sunday evening, January 7. We will list in the
bulletin next week which group you are in and where it will meet. Each group will be studying
Heart Diseases and Their Cure, by Wendell Winkler.
It is the aim of the eldership that these small study groups will lead us into a greater
spiritual growth. Being a part of a small group will provide a greater opportunity for stronger
relationships within the church family. It will also provide individual opportunity for reaching
out to the community and sharing with friends and family the gospel of Christ, in a more
personal setting.
The study which has been chosen will identify “heart diseases” prevalent in our society
today, but can also be found in the church. Not only will these “diseases” be identified, but cures
for them will be shared from God’s Word.
As we begin this study, I would ask that each of us go into it with a prayerful attitude for
each teacher leading the discussion groups. But also prayers that each of us may examine
ourselves carefully to be sure we are “pure” from these “heart diseases”. It can be very easy to
point fingers at those who need to change their lives, but overlook our own personal failings
(Matthew 7:1-5; 2 Corinthians 13:5).
We want to encourage you to be faithful in your participation of these study groups as
they meet on the first and third Sunday evenings of each month. Let’s make the year 2018 one in
which we see not only a greater spiritual growth, but also numerically as we let our lights shine
in our community.

On a Personal Note
As we near the end of another year, Cathy and I would like to thank you for all the gifts,
words of encouragement, cards, phone calls and prayers which have been shared with us, not
only during this season, but throughout the year. We pray that the congregation here may
continue to be a light for the Lord in Monticello and throughout the world. Let us set aside the
troubles of this world and focus our eyes on our eternal home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ. May the Lord continue to bless the saints meeting at Gabbert St. as we continue to serve
Him in His kingdom. ~ P. Mowrer
