FAITH UNDEFEATED!
In our study of Job, we recognized Satan as one of the main characters in the story. We also
recognized that struggles we may face from time to time are brought about by Satan’s hate for
good. The apostle Peter warns us, “...your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion,
seeking someone to devour” (1 Pet. 5:8). This warning is to be a reminder to Christians today,
that Satan is not only very much alive and well, but he is also very active [NOT PASSIVE!] in
searching out those who are trying to live faithful lives to the Lord.
Knowing that God allowed Satan to have his way with Job, it would be easy for us to think
that the odds are against us, too; that we have no choice in the outcome of our lives. But we
would be very much mistaken! Yes, Satan is a great adversary of man and also the “prince of
this world” (Eph. 2:2; 2 Cor. 4:4). But, his power has been limited by God. In fact, we need to
recognize that Satan has already been defeated by Jesus (1 Cor. 15:54-57)! Oh, victory in Jesus,
my Savior, forever! Because of the Lord’s victory, Satan is unable to defeat our faith in God.
The apostle Paul wrote, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man;
and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the
temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it” (1 Cor.
10:13). Too often we interpret that verse in a way that excuses us from the responsibility of
standing firm in the faith.
On closer examination, we need to know that the “way of escape” which has been provided
is through a knowledge of God’s Word and a prayer life that grows stronger day by day. The
more time we spend in a study of the Bible, the more we know of God and His power and
control of His creation (including us, if we allow Him). We also learn more of His wonderful
love, mercy and grace. We are reminded of the wonderful hope we have in eternal life because of
Christ and His victory over Satan. It is a victory we share today (in the present) as we wait for
the future hope of glory (yet to come)! Through prayer, we align ourselves with God and seek
His guidance (through His word). Through prayer, we gain the peace that passes all
understanding. Our focus becomes more about serving God and making those decisions day by
day which bring praise and glory to the Lord; and less about ourselves.
Yes, He has given us all we need to have a faith undefeated by Satan! Are you searching for
the strength based on the Lord Jesus Christ, or are you still fighting the battle on your own. The
undefeated faith can only be found through Jesus Christ! ~P. Mowrer
