HEROES OF FAITH

I would imagine if asked, each of us would be able to share the name of a favorite Bible
character, and even give the reason why they are a favorite. Or maybe we could even give a list
of favorites. Maybe it is Abel, for being faithful and offering the right sacrifice to the Lord. Or
perhaps one of David’s “mighty men”, listed in 2 Samuel 23 (there are at least 30 from which to
choose!). The neat thing about favorite characters, is that no one else has to accept them as their
personal favorite! It is a personal choice, supported by personal reasons.
I am excited about our Summer Series this year, because it is giving some of our own men
the opportunity to share their personal favorites with us. Not only sharing about a Bible
character, but also the reason for selecting them as a favorite and lessons we can learn from their
lives. I am also excited about this series, because some of our speakers are taking on the
challenge for the very first time. I can assure you, this is not as easy a task as it may sound. I am
proud of each of these men for accepting this challenge. I hope you will be in prayer for each and
every one. A list of the scheduled speakers and “heroes” can be found on the inside of the
bulletin.
Interspersed throughout the summer, we will have preachers from the area congregations
speaking to us on various topics. Some of these will deal with “heroes of the Bible”, while others
will deal with characteristics that will help us to be “heroes of faith”. Our first speaker of the
summer is Lanis Lindsey from the Rison congregation speaking on “Growing in Maturity.”
The summer months are typically times to be off and enjoying some “down” time and travel
time, but I want to encourage each of us to be present on Wednesday evenings to help support
our own speakers. It will mean a great deal to each speaker to have you present to encourage
them as they take on this challenge. But it will also be a great benefit to each of us as we study
God’s Word together. The “Heroes of Faith” were heroes because they lived a special life in the
presence of the Lord. I want to know those reasons so that I, too, can be recognized as a “Hero of
Faith” one day!
There are flyers available on the back tables of the auditorium that are for your use inviting
family and friends to visit with us for VBS and the entire summer. We will still have classes for
our younger children, while teens through adults will be in the auditorium. ~P. Mowrer
