FALSE WITNESS

“Error, indeed, is never set forth in its naked deformity, lest, being thus exposed, it should at
once be detected. But it is craftily checked out in an attractive dress, so as by its outward form, to
make it appear to the inexperienced...more true than truth itself” (Irenaeus, Against Heresies,
1.2).
The devil appears as an angel of light, because by that means he can deceive the
unsuspecting and the naïve. He can spout his dangerous lies unopposed. Hitler and Goebbels
noted that the bigger the lie, the more likely people are to accept and not question it. They found
people think the best in others and cannot imagine another would tell such a big, bold-faced lie.
So… they assume it not to be a lie at all.
Lies abound these days. Spinning the truth to fit an agenda is simply evil and deserves to be
exposed. God condemns false witnesses.

“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a
murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him.
Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies”
(John 8:44).

Cathy and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the congregation here for all of your
support, prayers and encouragement we have received over this past year. We are truly blessed to
be able to call Monticello home and to be a part of such a caring family of God. As we stand at
the gates of a new year, our prayer for you is that we will continue to strive for the unity for
which Christ died, to grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and to reach out to a community
who so much needs to know of the saving grace offered by our Heavenly Father. May God bless
each and everyone of us through the upcoming year. Happy holidays to each of you!
