20/20 VISION

Hard to believe that we have come to the end of another year! As a child, I used to laugh
when hearing grown-ups talk about how quickly time went by. There were definitely times in my
childhood I knew time was simply dragging. But now that I am one of the grown-ups, I don’t
laugh at the thought as much. It does seem that time marches on at a slightly quicker rate than
before.
Now the question becomes, how am I using the time that I have? The apostle Paul put it this
way, “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of
your time [redeeming the time, KJV], because the days are evil” (Eph. 5:15-16). Are we making
the most of our time for the Lord or do we squander the time on our own desires and
entertainment?
This coming year we will be using 20/20 Vision as our theme. We will be looking at ways
we can grow as the Lord’s body here in Monticello and as individuals. The elders have set down
three specific challenges for the year:
Worshiping the Lord in reverence and in awe (Hebrews 12:28-29).
Growing in maturity as children of God (Ephesians 4:14-16).
Evangelizing the community of Monticello (Matthew 28:19-20).
I hope that you will be in prayer to God for the success in these areas of service to God. This
is His work and we are fellow-workers in His kingdom (1 Cor. 3:9). If we will put ourselves in
His way, then He will do wonderful things through us for His kingdom! (It really is about Him
and not us!)
To help with 20/20 Vision, beginning Wednesday evening, January 8, we will conduct a
“Leadership Training Class for Men and Women” from grade 4 through adults. The men will
meet in the auditorium for practical hands on lessons in leading in worship, while the women
will be meeting in the Fellowship Hall and study some of the great examples of women serving
in the early church. I hope you will make plans to be a part of these lessons each week through
the month of January. The first Wednesday of January we will all meet in the auditorium to kick
off these lessons.
