Wellness

If I started talking to you about “Wellness” what would you think about? Most of us would probably start by thinking about our physical health. I know that I have been thinking about my own heath as I am getting older. I have always struggled with my weight, I have aches and pains, problems with my stomach, and the list goes on. For most of us we at least understand that we need to take care of ourselves physically. Many of us choose not to do as good of a job as we should, but we at least know what we should do.

Each year UAM hosts a Wellness Fair that WFC participates in. The Fair promotes wellness across a wide range of areas including Physical, Occupational, Emotional, Intellectual, Social, and Spiritual. Our wellness is more than just our physical health. We know the consequences of not taking care of our physical health, an early death. Taking care of our spiritual wellbeing is even more important for our long-term existence.

Our spiritual health is very different from our physical health. When we finally become aware of our spiritual state most of us are already dead. It is only through the power of God that we can be brought back to life. “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2:1-5)

Our spiritual wellness can only truly begin when God brings us back to spiritual life through Jesus Christ. In order to maintain this new life that we are given we must turn to our instruction manual and maintain our spiritual wellness, this takes discipline. We need to continue to study the bible, spend time in prayer, spend time with the church family and walk in obedience daily producing fruit for the Lord. The bible is our guide that teaches us how to maintain our spiritual wellness. When we are spiritually well we will desire the presence of God in our lives.   ~Brad Tolbert
