WHAT IS THE “ONE FAITH” IN EPHESIANS 4:5?
The one faith is the Law given by Christ. It is not one's personal faith. It is the
Gospel of Christ, the New Testament. The text clearly says there is ONE
FAITH, not many faiths! When one asks what faith you are, they are not asking
a Bible question! There is ONLY ONE! The One Body (church) is ruled by the
One Faith. If you do not belong to the one faith, you are in the wrong faith.
The one faith is God's system of faith. Many passages speak of ONE law, Gospel,
faith. Brethren were established in the faith and exhorted to continue in it
(Acts 16:5; 14:22). The faith can be turned away from, so we are to examine
ourselves whether we be IN the faith (1 Tim. 4:1; 5:8; 2 Cor. 13:5; Acts 13:8).
We are to be established in the faith, fight the good fight of faith, keep the faith
and contend for the faith (Col. 2:7; 1 Tim. 6:12; 2 Tim. 4:7; Jude 3). We must
strive together for the faith of the Gospel and continue in it (Phil. 1:27; Col.
1:23).
The one faith is called: the doctrine of God and Christ (2 John 9; Titus 2:10),
the Gospel of Christ and of the kingdom (Romans 1:1,16; Matthew 4:23), the
truth (John 17:17; 8:32), the word of God and Christ (Acts 4:31; Colossians
3:16), the word of life, grace and truth (Philippians 2:16; Acts 20:32; 2 Cor. 6:7),
the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2) and the perfect law of liberty (James 1:25).
The one faith produces the unity for which Jesus prayed (John 17:20-21). The
traditions and doctrines of men produce division and stand condemned of God
(Matthew 15:9). Let us remember God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians
14:33). Prayer books, creeds, manuals, synods, councils, disciplines,
and catechisms turn people away from the one faith. A curse of damnation
rests upon any who preaches and practices another gospel (Galatians 1:6-9).
There is ONE FAITH! It is the faith once for all delivered unto the saints (Jude
3). Is the faith you follow the one faith of the Bible? If not, you will not be saved.
If you are a member of a group that wears a name not given to the church by
God, it is not the faith of the Bible! Investigate the CHURCH OF CHRIST! It is
the ONE BODY ruled by the ONE FAITH!!
